Dave Carroll is an award-winning songwriter and social media innovator from Halifax. He has enjoyed a 35 year career with his brother in multi-award winning group, Sons of Maxwell, but he became familiar to hundreds of millions when his YouTube music video about a customer service issue with an airline, United Breaks Guitars , became a worldwide media sensation.
Today he divides his time being a dad, an author, professional speaker, storytelling coach and a singer-songwriter. His mission, which he has chosen to accept, is to improve the world one experience at a time.
“Regardless of whether I am presenting a song, a talk, or a video my goal is to leave the audience knowing their connection to others, happier than when they entered, empowered with information and stories that warms their heart so they go home seeking to be kinder.“
– Dave Carroll
Dave Carroll is a Canadian songwriter, author, social media pioneer and the creator of a one-in-a-billion story, United Breaks Guitars. His $150.00 YouTube music video about his broken instrument and the airline that failed to right their wrong, changed the world and became “one of the most important videos in Googles history”. It empowered consumers and sent ripples across the global business community after it reportedly dropped United Airlines stock by $180 million in market value.
What followed sparked an international speaking career where Dave has shared his experience in 34 countries but he has also been engaged to help others better tell their own stories. He has been commissioned to write custom songs for greater impact and he teaches the art of storytelling in workshop formats everywhere.
As a Story Coach, Dave shares his views on a model he calls Compassionate Design, which advocates businesses embrace an intentional process of seeking wins for all 5 stakeholders in any business (Customers, Employees, Suppliers, Community and Shareholders) through more effective use of storytelling. He believes that we all have more in common with each other than we don’t and that all of us have an amazing story that can change the world, so why not leverage that?
His music, down-to-earth sense of humour and insightful experience have made him a masterful teller of stories that unite, motivate and start movements.
